In this surreal setting, I see a man
and his hands were busy;
weighed down by something he held but I couldn't quite tell what it was.
He beckoned and beckoned,
heading towards my direction.

At this point, I became alarmed,
drifting further and further from this unlikely figure and his hand.
I thought he was out to get me,
I knew he was out to get me.

When I realized he was bent on me,
I sort out defense and hid myself.

Finally to my hideout he got, broken and injured
but of this I cared not.
I hit him again and again till his body laid still and his breath; all that's left.

And with a shrieking tone he said;
"I'm the shadow you lost last night"

Alas I woke and it was a dream,
I thought I'd killed someone already and was in haste to wash up when I realized I was clean.
And sadly I noticed my heartbeat was steady and I felt no remorse or fear whatsoever.
It turned out my shadow was my conscience.
