It is no longer strange that petic ulcer disease patients have associated factors which either bring a favourable or unfavourable prognosis. The major factor this article stresses is food. The Greek physician, Hippocrates recommends, " Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food. In other words, let your food be your medicine. Sadly enough, many people rather choose to make food their poison. As there's a drug for every ailment, so also there's a food type.

Certain classes of food when frequently eaten or eaten at all can induce new disease condition or worsen preexisting conditions. For example, it is recommended that diabetics should cut down as much as possible on consumption of fruit juices or canned fruits with added sugar. Other calorie sources like smoothies should be avoided as much as possible.

Peptic ulcers disease comprises: gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcer and rarely oesophageal ulcer. It may be caused by the organism called Hellicobacter pylori or due to excessive production of gastric acid(gastrinoma) and/or the reduction in the protective mucus layer of the gastrointestinal wall.

In addition to that, prolonged use of certain drugs such as non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs(aspirin, etc) has been another common cause of peptic ulcers diseases. Owing to the pathophysiology of this disease process, it is important to be picky when it comes to choice of food and drugs. Certain food worsen the peptic ulcers, such food like: caffeine and coffee, chocolate, spicy food, alcohol, acidic foods, such as citrus and tomatoes.

Any food which may cause an individual to reflux stomach contents should be avoided as much as possible. As a corollary to that, a peptic ulcer patient must always avoid excessive hunger; ensure there should always be food substance in the bowel to reduce the ulcerating effect of stomach acid.

The following food: carrots, broccoli, honey, yogurt, leafy green vegetables, apples, plant based oils, berries, cherries, cabbages) should be consumed more  as they reduce the risk of peptic ulcers and enhance a good prognosis in peptic ulcers patients.

In conclusion, peptic ulcers disease patients should take their medications regularly in combination with the the above listed food groups. As much as possible, a peptic ulcers patient should avoid taking over-the-counter medications and especially herbal medicine unless otherwise indicated by their doctor.
