Chapter Five

"Memories" by Maroon 5 was blasting out of the subwoofer in my room conjuring up memories Bukky and I once had together. I sang along with Adam Levine, the lead singer.

"Here's to the ones that we got
Cheers to the wish you were here, but you're not
'Cause the drinks bring back all the memories
Of everything we've been through.
Toast to the ones here today
Toast to the ones that we lost on the way
'Cause the drinks bring back all the memories
And the memories bring back, memories bring back you
There's a time that I remember, when I did not know no pain
When I believed in forever, and everything would stay the same
Now my heart feel like December when somebody say your name
'Cause I can't reach out to call you, but I know I will one day, yeah
Everybody hurts sometimes
Everybody hurts someday, ayy ayy
But everything gon' be alright
Go and raise a glass and say, ayy
Here's to the ones that we got
Cheers to the wish you were here, but you're not
'Cause the drinks bring back all the memories
Of everything we've been through
Toast to the ones here today
Toast to the ones that we lost on the way
'Cause the drinks bring back all the memories
And the memories bring back, memories bring back you
Doo doo, doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo, doo doo doo
Memories bring back, memories bring back you
There's a time that I remember when I never felt so lost........"

I brought out my diary from the drawer and placed it on my reading table to update it.

"Hmmm," I sighed deeply as I watched each words fill the blank pages.

'Dear Diary

Long time isn't it? I'm sorry, I thought I would outgrow you and leave you behind, but life has different plans for me. Please do well to keep this memories here.

When I was eighteen years of age, I had lots of nice ideas and innovations. Very very high expectations for myself and some badass dreams too.

At that age, I had a perfect relationship with Bukola, whom we both went to the same secondary school in Nigeria. She is a first class brilliant girl. Straight 'A' student. Beautiful, exceptional, smart and exquisite young lady and that's just to say at eighteen, I had my life sorted out for the future. Then in 2018, when we were in our second year in the university, I made a terrible life shattering mistake.

A mistake that redefined me, rewrote my future and brought me back to the dust bringing along everything I've built including that relationship too.

Recently, I packed all my dusts and clayed them into something that I can carry on moving forward making sure that it's not a lesson that is going to weigh me down again. Even though, the course of my life have entirely been reshaped.

February 2018, I published my first love story, a story about love and betrayal. I still don't know my plans for the future because I am still in the process of building and rebuilding my body.

I don't even know why I am writing this, or whom I am writing this for, I don't even know if this makes any sense but I hope to touch someone's life positively. I just hope someone comes across this one day and read my memories of a sad love story about two high school lovers.'

I concluded my writing and left my diary on the bookshelf where it had always been. "Those painful memories are books with chapters, deep and horrible; and so, I leave them on the shelf to gather dust. I can pick them up if I need to learn something new, to gain a new perspective that help me create a new, good story. I can use them to re-see situations through the lenses of their needs and traumas rather than mine. I want my today, tomorrow and after tomorrow to be wonderful. I want to choose what to write on those blank pages again." I said as I picked up my bag and set out to New York City in search for Bukky, the love of my life. I hummed 'Fireboy's New York City Girl' as the car drives around the busy highways of California.

The End!
